Cybera

Firstly, we would like to thank Cybera for providing a server for the project. Cybera is an Albertan non-profit corporation that provides various services related to cloud computing and data science. This project made use of the Rapid Access Cloud. A virtual instance is used to host the map website and contains the database that collects all the records from the app.

Map Providers

Both the app and the website make use of maps to visualize data. When a user views a portion of the map, the application needs to find and display images that cover that area of the map. These images are known as map tiles. For this project, we used tiles provided by Thunderforest. The data underlying these tiles have been collected by OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL. Additionally, the interactive maps are only made possible by the Leaflet and OSMdroid libraries. This project would not have been feasible without the excellent map data and software available to us.

Funding

Funding for this project was provided by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) through an Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA). The project has been approved by the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta.
